Assets that had been written off in the assets registers of the various divisions of Eskom were donated to the Foundation. These assets were in turn donated to 99 institutions (2006:5) such as schools, clinics and to welfare organisations. The estimated market value of these assets amounted
to R411 950 in the current financial period (2007:R231 700).

Grants and donations

In the period under review, the Foundation approved a total of 64 grants for R44,9 million towards economic and social development projects, national programmes and flagship projects (2007:15 grants for R41,6 million); and 135 donations for R3,9 million were approved for philanthropic and welfare organisations (2007: 50 donations for R2,1 million). This brings the total grantmaking to R48,8 million (2007:R43,7 million).

Beneficiaries of the 2008 grants and donations

A total of 60 634 people benefited from the grants and donations during the reporting period
(2007: 77 415).
