Medium-term co-generation project

Third parties with potential generation capacity projects have been invited to present their proposals with the following conditions:

  • This is limited to plants that will be in commercial operation by June 2012.
  • The maximum contract duration is 10 years ending December 2018.
  • The last date for submission of proposals is 1 December 2008. Proposals will be evaluated and contracts signed on an ongoing base as proposals received are processed.
  • Projects sized between 5MW and 1 000MW will be eligible.
  • All technology solutions will be considered.
  • This is open to new build and incremental capacity increases or refurbishments of existing plant within South Africa.
  • The contract currency will be South African rand (ZAR).
  • The total maximum amount of capacity to be signed on this programme is 3 000MW.
  • The final design of the programme will allow bidders to mitigate, without penalties, against the potential impact of targets imposed in terms of the power conservation programme (PCP).
  • Pricing parameters at which Eskom will be prepared to contract were published together with the tender documents.
  • Tender documents and a standard “energy only” power purchase agreement were released to interested parties on 1 April 2008.
